Meet Marlo
In my life, art is not just something I produce—it is how I experience and connect with the world. Whether I am making art, viewing it, or building it alongside others, my entire journey is defined by a deep, lifelong love for the creative process.
My Roots & Identity
I am a white-presenting Latina—half Puerto Rican and half Maine! Scottish, Irish, and more! My rich family and cultural background have defined my creative identity. Today, I balance my active studio practice with my roles as a wife, a mother of two young men, and a passionate art business entrepreneur.
The Early Years: Conceptual Photography with a Sculptural Heart
I am a trained artist across multiple mediums, holding a BFA in Photography from the University of Connecticut and an MFA in Photography from the Hartford Art School. In 1997, my graduate thesis—and later, the new portfolio that earned me an artist fellowship from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts in 2001—was conceptual and photo-based, but sculpture at heart. I loved pushing boundaries, layering materials, and creating tactile experiences.
I actively created and exhibited these dimensional photographic works across the country, while also teaching at various levels—including college-level courses and over a decade as an art instructor at Miss Porter’s School. In 2012, I chose to pause my active professional practice and exhibition schedule to dedicate my time to homeschooling my two children.
A New Chapter: Abstract Watercolors & Fluidity
In the spring of 2023, I launched a solo pop-up exhibition featuring my new, abstract watercolors. The exhibit was a wildly successful milestone, and ever since, my primary studio focus has pivoted entirely to this medium.
After years of making elaborate, multi-layered, and time-consuming conceptual photographic pieces, working with watercolors has liberated me. Today, my paintings are an intuitive exploration of beautiful colors, pooling washes, shifting horizon lines, and delicate touches of metallic shimmer. It is a space where I find pure joy, creative hyper-focus, and a deep, meditative calm.
Art in Community
When I am not in my studio, I am thriving in the local art scene in my hometown. I am the Co-Owner, Visionary, and COO of Creative Jam Art Co. in Bristol, Connecticut, and the President of the non-profit artist collective Creative Bristol. Through these leadership roles, my daily mission is to democratize art, direct public projects, and make creative experiences accessible to everyone.
I find immense joy in sharing my passion, and I am happy to bring my love of art wherever I go.

The Endangered Art of Water Marbling: A Private 1-on-1 Masterclass
[ COMING SOON — Fall 2026 ]
The Experience: Water marbling is a centuries-old, endangered tradition kept alive by only a handful of practitioners worldwide. I was fortunate to study this meticulous craft under master marblers Dan and Regina St. John. In this upcoming private, hands-on workshop, I am opening my studio to share this rare fluid lineage with you.
What you’ll learn: You will learn the delicate chemistry behind preparing the floating water bath, treating your substrates, dropping the pigments, and manipulating the surface to create mesmerizing, one-of-a-kind fluid patterns.
Note: I am currently expanding my practice and fabricating the specialized tray required for this masterclass. Sign up for my newsletter or send an inquiry to be placed on the priority waitlist for the first available sessions.
